The GoPro HERO7 Silver sat between the simple HERO7 White and the more capable HERO7 Black. It offers 4K video, GPS, a rear touchscreen and GoPro’s waterproof body, but it leaves out the Black model’s HyperSmooth stabilisation, advanced shooting modes and removable battery.
It is now an older camera, so it is worth considering only at a low used or refurbished price. For casual daylight travel, water sports and family video, it can still be useful. 4K video and photos
The camera records 4K at 30 fps, plus lower-resolution options including 1440p. In good daylight, the wide fixed lens produces clear, colourful clips for casual viewing and social media. It cannot record 4K at 60 fps, and its options are much simpler than those on the HERO7 Black.
It captures 10MP JPEG photos with Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), burst shooting, touch zoom and exposure control. There is no RAW mode. Its strong point is convenience, not serious still-photo flexibility.
Stabilisation
The HERO7 Silver uses standard digital video stabilisation. It can reduce everyday hand shake but is not the HyperSmooth system used in the HERO7 Black. For walking and normal hand-held shots it can help; for rough cycling, running or fast action, newer GoPro models produce smoother footage.
Design, touchscreen and waterproofing
The body is compact and rugged, with a 2-inch rear touchscreen, USB-C port and microSD-card slot. It is waterproof to 10 metres (33 feet) without a separate housing when the door is securely closed. Use a dedicated waterproof housing for deeper water.
