Hand-faceted crystals shaped for light, balance, and character
This portfolio presents a curated selection of crystals faceted entirely by hand, with a strong focus on precision faceting, accurate symmetry, and a clean, high-quality polish.
Each stone is approached individually, allowing the natural properties of the material—clarity, structure, and optical behaviour—to guide the cutting decisions, rather than following mass-production standards or predefined commercial formulas.
A Focus on Craft, Not Volume
My work centres on precision faceting, where angles, meet-points, and polish quality are treated as equally important elements of the final result. Each stage of the process is approached with care and patience, allowing the characteristics of the material to guide cutting decisions rather than imposing a standardized outcome.

Through precision faceting, I work slowly and deliberately, prioritizing optical performance, symmetry, and material integrity over speed or quantity. This approach ensures controlled light return and structural balance, resulting in stones that reflect both technical accuracy and respect for the natural crystal.
I work solely in my garage in Liverpool in the UK. My approach is methodical, with each stone treated individually to respect its unique characteristics and potential. To achieve this level of precision, I use the VL Classic Analog machine from UltraTech, suitable for harder gemstones such as topaz, sapphire, and similar materials.
During faceting, I employ a Batlap with 8,000 diamond paste for the initial polish, followed by 60,000 diamond paste on a Ba5t lap for final finishing. For softer materials such as quartz, opal, and similar stones, I use cerium oxide on a dark side lap to achieve a clean, high-quality polish.
This setup ensures consistency, precision, and careful handling of each material according to its hardness and optical properties.
What defines my approach:
- Individual, hand-cut stones
- Emphasis on symmetry and light return
- Respect for natural crystal characteristics
Selected Faceted Stones
Below is a curated selection of faceted stones, showcasing a range of materials, cuts, and design approaches. Each piece is the result of individual evaluation, where the natural characteristics of the crystal guide the choice of cut, proportions, and finish.
Some stones are created as technical or visual studies, others belong to private collections, while a limited number may be available upon request. Every stone reflects deliberate decisions made specifically for that material, rather than a standardized cutting formula.
Stone Information and Details
Each stone page includes high-quality photographs, video footage, and clear technical details such as material, weight, cut style, and finish. Where relevant, I also include notes on design choices, cutting decisions, and specific challenges encountered during the faceting process.
These details offer context beyond the final appearance, providing transparency into the process and a better understanding of how each stone was approached and completed.
Process and Finish
This section presents short clips and longer-form videos documenting both the faceting process and the finished stones. The focus is not only on the final appearance, but also on the stages that lead to it. By showing the work in progress, these videos offer a clearer understanding of how design choices, angle adjustments, and polishing techniques influence the final result.
Video also provides context that photographs alone cannot fully capture. Subtle variations in light return, facet alignment, and surface finish become more apparent in motion. These recordings are intended to be informative rather than promotional, offering an honest view of the faceting work as it is carried out and completed.
Custom Precision Faceting and Collaboration
In addition to personal work, I accept a limited number of custom faceting requests and collaborative projects. Each project is approached individually, with careful discussion before any work begins. The goal is to align expectations with the characteristics of the material and the intended use of the stone.
Custom faceting may involve client-provided material or stones selected specifically for a particular cut or purpose. Collaboration projects can range from collector-focused pieces to work intended for jewellery or study. In all cases, feasibility, material quality, and design suitability are evaluated in advance.
This selective approach allows for focused attention on each project and avoids standardized or rushed outcomes. Rather than offering a fixed catalogue, custom work is shaped through dialogue, technical assessment, and realistic planning. This ensures that the final result reflects both the potential of the material and the intent behind the project.
