The GoPro HERO7 White was the entry-level model in the HERO7 range. It keeps the familiar waterproof GoPro body, rear touchscreen, voice control and wide-angle look, but removes many of the advanced features found on the HERO7 Black.
It is now an older camera and only makes sense when it is inexpensive and in excellent condition. For casual holiday clips, swimming, family use and simple action video, it can still do the job. It is not a good choice if 4K, RAW photos, removable batteries or strong current stabilisation matter to you.

The HERO7 White suits someone who wants a very simple first GoPro for daylight video. Its straightforward touchscreen and built-in waterproofing make it easy to carry, mount and use. It is most appealing as a cheap used camera, not as a premium purchase.

Video quality
The camera records up to 1440p at 60 fps in a 4:3 format, plus 1080p video at 60 or 30 fps. It does not record 4K. The taller 4:3 frame can be useful for cropping into a conventional 16:9 video after recording, but image quality and flexibility are limited compared with later GoPro models.
In good daylight, its wide fixed lens produces colourful, recognisably GoPro-style footage. After sunset or indoors, the small sensor shows more noise and softer detail. It is best treated as a daylight action camera.
Stabilisation and photos
The HERO7 White has standard digital video stabilisation, but not the HyperSmooth system of the HERO7 Black. It can reduce everyday hand shake but will not smooth demanding running, cycling or vehicle footage as effectively as newer cameras.
It captures 10MP JPEG stills with a fixed wide field of view. Burst mode and a photo timer are useful for casual snapshots, but there is no RAW option and little creative control compared with a dedicated camera or a newer phone.
Design, screen and waterproofing
The compact body has a 2-inch rear touchscreen, USB-C port and microSD-card slot. It is waterproof to 10 metres (33 feet) without an extra housing when the door is correctly closed. Use a dedicated waterproof case for deeper water.
The battery is integrated, not removable. That keeps the body simple but means you cannot quickly swap in a fresh battery during a long day out. Battery runtime varies with mode, temperature and the age of the camera.
Voice control and phone connection
Voice control can be useful when the camera is mounted on a helmet, handlebar or grip. It is less reliable in wind, water or noisy surroundings, so use the physical controls when the recording matters.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connect the camera to GoPro’s mobile software for transferring and editing clips. App names, features and cloud plans have changed since the camera was released, so check current phone compatibility before buying a used HERO7 White.
