Canon 10-18mm Review

Canon EF-S10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens is known to be the world’s first ultra-wide lens that has a reasonable price. This lens works compatibly on a Canon APS-C DSLR camera. It is not known for its value for the price, but it is also known for being lightweight, making it very portable.

This lens is optically superb, as it is the sharper lens available in the market. If you would compare, it is way much better than a Canon EF-S 10-22mm in terms of its performance, plus it is twice, much cheaper. People labeled this product as the more affordable alternative for the 10-22mm lens.

Canon 10-18mm Review

Canon has continuously supplied APS-C users’ needs with an ultrawide classic EF-S lens for about a decade now. They have been consistent in giving excellent service, having foresight on what photographers will need in the future.

This lens undoubtedly is a welcome edition from Canon company that can shoot landscapes and architectural images. It has captured the attention of every photographer despite quite numerable glasses within the same range.

Canon 10-18mm Specs:

  • Product Brand: Canon
  • Product Dimension: Length of 74 mm, Width of 81.5 mm
  • Product Weight: 230g
  • Color: Black
  • Focal Length: 10mm – 18mm
  • AF Motor Type: STM
  • Aperture Range: f/4.5-22 and f/5.6-29
  • Number of Aperture blades: 7
  • Compatibility: APS-C format cameras

Product Overview:

The Canon 10-18mm lens is the first of Canon products with an ultra-wide range lens. It has an added Image Stabilization (IS) to prevent capturing photos blurry and low-quality images. It is by far the sharpest, small, light but less expensive lens Canon has produced.

This product is highly portable as it has a dimension of 81.5 mm in length and  74 mm wide. Also, it is lightweight as it weighs only 230 grams.

It has a plastic-mount lens, but it can’t break easily as some assume it to be, but mind you, it is very durable. It has a beautiful black finish and a rubber-coated zoom ring. This lens has a robust and compact built.

The zoom action is quite noticeable since it can zoom smoothly without any wobbling from the lens’s inner barrel. Seeing on its external features, it has an autofocus (AF) and manual focus (MF) switch and image standardization (IS) toggle switch. It is firm, and the switches do not move without you being touching it.

You can also notice that this lens, looking at its external appearance, doesn’t have any markings indicating its focus distances or field-scale depth. It has only a simple marking that indicates focal length from 10mm to 18mm. Other observable things on the product are the branding and model name labels.

Stepper Autofocus Motor

Canon has incorporated the product with Stepper Autofocus Motor (STM) for faster Autofocus if you are doing video coverage. On the other hand, you can also set it to manual focus if you are keen on self-adjusting.

You can easily override the system by picking a manual focus setting and note that manual focus for this lens is electronic and not mechanical. It is a drawback for this lens as it lacks a tactile resistance because of its smoothness, which the users are not accustomed to, unlike mechanical focusing.

You can readily achieve smooth focusing, and landscape photographers will appreciate it. It doesn’t affect the images with any graduate ND filters or polarizers on the lens when turning the focus ring.

Although Canon has cut this lens’s cost down, it doesn’t mean that it is cheap. Unlike any other glass, composed of an all-metal and weather-sealed lens, this is specifically carbonated poly plastic to attain its desired weight with a plastic mount and plastic barrel.

They make this product with an ideal material composition to serve its reason for which it is built, giving ease and comfort to photographers while enhancing their photographic experience. Canon has saved a lot of weight on its composition.

For APS-C format

It is best to be carried on tours and travels outside the country, or only using it on the outdoor activity as this is exceptionally portable. This lens is for APS-C format Canon cameras.

It perfectly fits Canon models like Canon EOS 4000D, achieving an exceptional balance and an added weight on the photographer’s hand to hold firmly and steady the camera.

The lens interior optical layout includes one ultra-low definition (UD) element for chromatic aberration control, a spherical component, and other additional elements. These elements are useful to be understood as it features a multi-layer lens coating to improve basic settings of contrasting, color balancing and at the same time reduces the ghosting of image.

There is a seven-blade circular aperture diaphragm that is useful for smooth background blur.

Handling and Features

Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM has caught the eyes of every. It had provided a wide field of view, and it is only for EF-S lens compatible Canon cameras. The autofocus feature is rapid and precise.

It is very unlike any other Canon USM lenses where full-time manual focus override is not possible. It has an option to set it up once and locked the glass into that setting. The manual focusing is lightly damped, but it is not an issue if you are taking a field with a depth of imagery on it.

Note that focusing is performed internally in the lens, meaning the 67mm filter thread doesn’t move. Thus, making this lens to be suitable for using polarization and graduate filters.

Performance

The lens at a maximum aperture has an outstanding quality in the center of the frame. The edges exceptionally display a clear image and frame it to an excellent level.

The desired sharpness can be achieved right in between the options of aperture f/5.6 and f/8. Adjusting the lens to 14 mm, the center frame’s sharpness at an optimal aperture remains excellent.

It is balanced and consistent throughout the frame. Next is the 18mm settings, in which the performance doesn’t significantly vary compared to the other focal lengths. The sharpness that it displays is pretty consistent at the optimal aperture.

Peak sharpness can be achieved at aperture settings of f/8, and it is consistent throughout the frame.

Chromatic aberration for this lens is well managed throughout the zoom range. Still, it is essential to disclose that at 10mm focal length. There are noticeable three-quarters of pixels exceed on the outer edges.

This minor difference can be overlooked since it can be barely visible, especially when taking images with high contrast settings. You can also encounter mild flares on the pictures, primarily shooting with the sun in the frame. Note that no lens hood is included upon purchase. You must buy it separately.

Image Quality

The 10-18mm focal length zoom shows a visible barrel distortion especially taking at a wide-angle. Although this can be ignored, as you reduce the zooming feature, it progressively reduces the distortion.

You visibly see also the shading on wide-open 10mm focal length settings. The minor fall-off in the image’s corners can be observed, but it can be fixed in image post-processing using photo editor software.

This lens has proved to be consistent in its imaging performance as you can look at the image. Whenever you capture beautiful scenery, the center’s sharpness is almost the same, with the edge across in a full-zoom range.

Pros:

  • It gives great value for your money
  • Exceptionally light and portable
  • Smooth focusing
  • User Friendly

Cons:

  • Hood is not included in the package.
  • Minor color fringing on the edges

Conclusion

The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens has proven its significance among the best performing Canon lenses in the market. It has an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens and has image stabilization to optimize and achieve high-quality images.

It has a smooth autofocus accuracy and competes with other expensive lenses available in the market. Considering the EF-S 10-22mm, which is a costly lens that has the performance almost the same as the EF-S 10-18mm.

This lens’s coverage encompasses a wide range of applications, such as capturing vast landscapes, huge buildings, and large group shots that you don’t necessarily step back to get the full view.

You’ll respect its optical quality and presence of STM feature for movie shooters. Plus, it is the most affordable lens available in the market. You can never be wrong if you choose to purchase this one. <-Affiliate link 🙂 This lens offers the best value for money.

Canon 24mm lens review

Reality speaking, a camera without a lens is useless to a photographer. The significance of the glass on a camera brings an added vibrance and emotion to the output. Therefore, it is vital to acquire a high-quality lens to help you capture great photos, even with a low-quality camera.

On the other hand, a low-quality lens makes mediocre quality photos.

So, what is a camera lens in a more straightforward term? It is a tool to bring light to a fixed focal point in your camera. The digital camera lens directs the light to a digital sensor that captures the image.

You may wonder about the shapes and sizes, but the lens came with a convex or concave shape and made up of a glass plate series. The camera lens is the right variable that determines the quality of the final photo.

Product Overview

Canon is one of the leading companies known for its high-quality products for photography gadgets and accessories. One notable product available on their lists is the Canon EF-S 24 mm f/2.8 STM lens.

This lens first hit the market in the middle of November 2014, and you can find a significant resemblance to its predecessor EF 40 STM in an APS-C format. They have upgraded this product as it has a more extensive focal length and improves mechanical and optimal performance.

This lens is small in its size, with a dimension of length 11.8 cm, width 11.2 cm, and height 11 cm. It weighs around 127 grams.

It is well-made with a non-weather sealed body construction. It is built of engineering plastic with a standard metal mount.

You may notice on its physical features. It has a single switch extending the inner lens barrel and a small MF ring. You see, the MF ring has a little stagger on its design.  This lens is a new wide-angle prime pancake lens in the market in the series of Canon APS-C DSLR cameras.

Considering the specification of 24mm focal length and has a micro-stepping driving tool for smoother and quieter operation. We can now have a continuous AF while taking video coverage.

For Canon APS-C cameras

This lens comes with a deep black color finish suitable for your Canon APS-C cameras.  It may be small, but it has a fantastic performance, a super sharp reception, and has broader coverage. It has a fast f/2.8 speed useful for shooting in a specific environment such as dim light making your viewfinder brighter.

It has an aspheric lens element, and this maximizes the lens arrangement to minimize ghosting and flare. Also, this has a remarkable circular seven-blade aperture and has a minimum focusing distance of 16cm.

You may be underestimating its capacity, but mind it has exceptional quality. Canon EF-S 24 mm has a smaller cap than any other lens caps.

This lens maximizes the new technology autofocus motor usage, which is widely known as a stepper motor (STM). What is its effect? It will result in quieter AF and makes the lightest humming sound as it adjusts its focus. You must not miss this lens if you are fond of shooting videos with your DSLR.

Some lenses have an image stabilization feature, but Canon EF-S 24 mm f/2.8 STM does not have it. No wonder this lens does not have an image stabilization feature since it is only a small glass, and for the price range, what can you expect?

Wide aperture

But the performance for this lens has far outweighed its value for the money since it has a wide aperture, which allows you to take excellent handheld shots at a low light level.

The image quality for Canon EF-S 24 mm f/2.8 is outstanding. With the extensive aperture feature for this lens, you can be sure to capture images nicely and sharply. If you are going to adjust the settings to a narrower aperture, it affects the image quality in sharpness.

We mean by sharpness is the image peripherals, in which most photographers are embarrassed since the corners appear to be slightly blurred. The color quality is also affected as some of the colors will be in one monotonous tone other than it is somehow another shade of a particular color.

It is entirely accurate in taking shots of leaves under the tree. The green foliage must appear in different shades since the sunlight brings variation as it hits the object.

The nearest comparison for this lens is the Canon EF 40mm, which has somehow has identical functions and features. But how does this lens differ from the latter? For numerous tests in taking shots of different objects, the EF 40 STM has a sharper image quality compared to EF 24 STM.

It must not surprise us since 40 STM is a full-frame lens, hence depicts the image with clarity. But EF 24 STM has a real improvement from the Canon series of the lens as it has been found to have the most significant difference in vignetting.

Negligible chromatic aberration

It has improved on its corner shading as well as the amount of flare. It has a negligible chromatic aberration on the image corners and has a strongly contrasting subject on the middle portion and the corner portion of the image frame.

Canon EF-S 24 mm Features:

Fixed focal length

The Canon EF-S 24 mm f/2.8 STM has a 24mm fixed focal length lens.  The EF-S qualification assures you that this lens provides an image circle that is large enough to cover only an APS-C sensor.

The cameras compatible with this type of lens include Canon Rebel models, the D series, and the 7D series. The cameras mentioned have a 1.6x FOVCF that optimizes the angle of view from a 24mm lens.

Wide aperture

Canon EF-S 24 mm with an added STM makes a multipurpose capability, including the relatively wide f/2.8 aperture.  This extensive aperture feature is enough reason to include your primary tools for getting a good shot. It is best to use, especially for night sky photography and capturing indoor motions.

Narrow focusing

This lens has a very narrow focusing ring. The auto-focusing feature of Canon EF-S 24 mm f/2.8 zoom operates very fast, as it takes approximately less than 2 seconds to lock on the subject. All the performance may vary depending on the light settings in a particular location.

Vibrant chromatic aberrations

You can notice it as it typically appears as purple or blue fringes in a contrast edge. Despite the challenges taking those hard edges, this lens can pretty handle it well without color discrepancy.

Double macro

This type of lens has a 24mm f/2.8 STM, which serves as a macro lens that can be used to take excellent close up shots. Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM has a close-focus point 16cm from the sensor plane and has a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.27x. It is pretty impressive in comparison to other lenses on its range.

Bokeh feature

You may be very familiar with this, but for the sake of beginners, Bokeh is a term used for taking shots that blurs the surrounding of the subject. When you take a picture of a specific scenery, the ones you focus on will come out clear while the surrounding objects or background automatically blurs.

It is described in many categories, but the few qualitatively known terms are smooth, creamy, harsh, etc. This lens has an iris diaphragm incorporated with seven rounded blades for a pleasing rendering of the blurry highlights.

Pros:

  •  Compact lens
  •  Sharp image quality
  •  Exceptional wide-angle view
  •  Silent STM focus motor
  •  Good value for the price

Cons:

  •  No image stabilization
  •  It takes time to do manual focusing experience.
  •  Vignetting at f/2.8

Conclusion

We have concluded that this product has exceeded its performance for the price with all the details listed above. Canon has produced a great lens that every photographer would love. It may be pretty basic to be attached to your digital cameras, but it gives you what you need to start capturing fresh and vivid images.<-Affiliate link 🙂

The Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 lens is impressively small and very lightweight. Rest assured that this lens will get the job done, and it gets the job better than any glass on its range.

Canon macro lens review – EF S 35 mm f 2.8

A camera lens can be a massive help in making your projects look more creative, mainly situated in the industry of digital photography. Although there are many kinds of lenses available in the market, it must be confusing on your part to pick the right one for your day to day works.

You must know the details of the work you do most often or, if you got a project, what variables to consider to choose the right lens to use. In selecting an appropriate lens, it can be a bit complex procedure since you will consider many things.

Such as size, weight, lens speed, image quality, and most especially the cost, which is a factor that can significantly affect your choice.

As well we all know that everyone has limited resources, and you can’t pour out cash for just one aspect of the project and not considering other conditions.

Types of lenses

You must know that there are two types of lenses, the zoom lens and the prime lens. The zoom lens is where you can adjust the focal length for a certain period of range. One of the notable benefits of a zoom lens is that you can quickly achieve different compositions and perspectives in one positioning.

But this doesn’t mean that you no longer change position. Zoom lenses increase your flexibility. On the other hand, prime lenses have a fixed focal length and don’t exhibit a zooming feature. Considering the benefits of prime lenses, first in the line is the cost, which is considerably lower cost compared to the zoom lens.

The other benefits are its weight and speed. Although the prime lens is cheaper than a zoom lens, it does capture good quality images. This type of glass offers a better light-gathering ability; hence it is an excellent application even to low-light setting photography.

In this review, we will tackle one of the prime lenses available in the market. It is a cost-efficient lens and has a lot of value for your money. To know the full details, kindly read further below.

Canon macro lens review – EF-S 35 mm f 2.8

Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens is a unique lens since, among other Canon EF-S range, this is the first one. This lens features an upgraded technology that can illuminate close-up subjects. It is called Macro-Lite Technology.

It is a very tiny standard macro lens and has a dimension of 69.2 mm in length and 55.8 mm. It’s pretty lightweight as it weighs around 190 grams. This lens has a minimum aperture of f/32 and a maximum aperture of f/2.8.

It is undeniable based on the review titles themselves. This lens has a focal length of 35 mm.

Considering that this lens has STM or stepper motor, it enables it to have a quick, quiet, and smooth auto-focus. It is a handy feature if you venture for a video coverage project that makes your output appealing.

Not weather sealed

EF-S 35mm macro lens is not a weather-sealed lens. Thus you must take a considerable amount of care when taking it out in a rainy weather condition, wet locations, or dusty areas, as it may easily damage the lens.

This lens has a 30mm working distance between the end of the lens to the subject at its minimum focusing distance. When we talk about working in short lengths, lighting is the number one factor that makes every shoot challenge.

But, Canon has foreseen this issue and addresses it directly by incorporating a pair of continuous circular LED lights, known as Macro Lite.

Macro Lite settings can be achieved either by shining the left-hand side or right-hand side of the image, giving you full control of the image you want illuminated. Super close objects may tend to blur the surrounding environment, but this lens will still make explicit imagery while capturing the subject.

It is not limited to wildlife photography, but you might want to consider this if you are up to taking photographs of products such as jewelry or food. Macro Lites, whenever you shoot at portrait distances, this will have no difference in the image.

This feature will take no effect beyond 3 feet distance. Plus, this has a super spectra coating, which is very useful to eliminate ghosting and flare. The utmost goal is to have a realistic expectation of the incoming amount of light.

Great for macro

It is suitable for macro photography, wherein you can get close to a particular subject and get the full details. Macro photography is taking a small object either in a studio or outdoor environment and magnifying it sufficiently.

This type of photography includes capturing bugs, flowers, etc. Magnification for this photography may be life-size or more magnificent.  It is close-up photography. It will particularly help you since Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens has a 1.0x magnification, given a distant focus range of 0.13 meters.

It has an optical image stabilizer that includes a Hybrid IS and a seven-blade circular aperture. The image stabilizer can be switch on or off by turning the OIS to shoot images without shaking or blur entirely.

If you are working with a tripod, then image stabilization may be unnecessary, so you should be turning it off instead. There is also a button intended to switch on the front macro lites. Remember that it won’t take effect as long as the camera is in sleep mode.

The image quality for 35 Macro lenses is exceptionally for its price. It gives a lot of value for providing sharp image results. The edges have a minimal chromatic aberration, primarily working on outdoor locations.

Good contrast and color rendition

Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens’s flare resistance is quite good and implies minimal ghosting or veiling.  You may notice if you took shoots using this lens, it has a nice contrast and color rendition at all aperture values.

It’s hard to find a versatile lens like this, as you can shoot using this lens in various conditions. Plus, this is good for bokeh rendering whenever you want your subject to be highlighted and blur its surroundings.

Although this is branded as a macro lens, it can function as a general lens for any subject, depending on your preference. This lens can be easily attached since it has an indicator on the back with a white square, fitted perfectly to a lens mount. It has a white marker compared to a red one since it is Canon’s mark that this is an EF-S type of lens and not EF.

STM lenses for cameras are built primarily to enable autofocus. This feature of autofocusing the subject for this lens is swift and silent if you work with a few inches away from your subject.

Canon EF-S 35mm lens is what most people need in taking pictures for documentation and any other projects. But if you like to customize your shot depending on how you want it to look, you can switch the adjustment ring from Autofocus (AF) to MF, meaning manual focus.

MF settings give you full control over where you want to focus your camera, as the manual focusing system routes through the focus motor, and the motor will itself move the elements.

Quick focus

STM initially wants to achieve smoothness of focus over speed, but the Canon EF-S 35mm lens is exceptional in focusing very quickly. The focusing ring allows you to have a fine-tuning precision while holding the camera up to your eye.

Moreover, it is difficult to achieve exact focusing because of its limited features. Still, it is not too bad because you can make good graphic results without any hard stops.

Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens is designed mainly for snapshooters and photo enthusiasts who use Canon’s cropped-sensor cameras (APS-C). With an APS-C format camera, 35mm focal length gives a wider-angle view and shows a natural photography perspective.

It has a 1:1 macro reproduction for close-ups that can be used for portraits, events, and documenting a day to day life. This lens comes along a small bag fitted for storage and is readily portable, taking it into different locations.

Pros:

  • Very sharp image results
  • Useful in lighting the object
  • Smooth bokeh feature
  • Fast and smooth focusing feature
  • Useful manual focusing override

Cons:

  • No enough space between the lens and the subject
  • Autofocus tends to stick.

Conclusion

It is a challenging thing to find any prime lenses that maximize the value of your money. But Canon has paved its way to giving users their needs through Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM Lens. It has a lot to offer both in sharpness and superb additional features.

You can never go wrong in your macro photography, as this will help you make high-quality images and improve good lighting via Macro Lite. You should include this in your kit <-Affiliate link 🙂 to level up your service.

Best canon lens for portrait photography

Canon has succeeded in launching one of the best canon lens for portrait photography, with one of the most versatile focal lengths.

Yes, it is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens, which not only provides clear and sharp images but is also compact and well-suited for everyday shooting.

Canon EF 50mm Review

It comes with a bright maximum aperture of f/1.8, which helps it work in difficult lighting conditions and gives it increased control over depth of field to isolate subject matter.

Super Spectra coating is applied on its elements to minimize flare and ghosting so that better contrast and color accuracy can be reached when shooting in harsh backlit conditions.

It also features an STM stepping AF motor, which results in steady and quiet autofocus performance and manual focus override full-time.

Moreover, its circular 7-blade design allows it to deliver a beautiful background blur as well. Thanks to its updated lens arrangement and advance features, it can render images with excellent color balance.

Then its redesigned exterior complemented by its improved focus ring placement leads to breezy manual focus adjustments.

It also features a rugged metal mount and an improved minimum focusing distance of 0.35m and max magnification of 0.21. So all these features, without a doubt, make this Canon 50mm lens the most compact lens for photographers and moviemakers.

Now let us look at these features in detail to understand the workings of this beautiful Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens and find out what makes it so special?

Canon EF 50mm – Product Overview:

First of all, this lens offers sharp performance for stills and is also best for capturing videos. It is indeed a fixed focal length gem.

While this prime lens is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, it can also be used with APS-C models providing an 80mm equivalent focal length.

Its advanced features enable users to control the depth of field, leading to selective focus applications and helping them when working in low-light situations.

Everything works in cohesion to create results that will blow your viewer’s mind from everything to structure, build, quality, and design.

It features a wide f/1.8 aperture, which gives the lens the ability to allow in more light, which, compared to that standard zoom lens, is eight times more. This results in EF 50mm f/1.8 STM producing sharper images as it can now easily bring your subject into focus and blur the background.

This reduces the need for flash in dimly-lit conditions and minimizes motion blurs, making it very easy to shoot in an environment with low light.

This is referred to as a ‘narrow depth of field’ by photographers. This allows them to make their subject a clear focus of their shot and stand out, which helps shoot portraits.

So now, with the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens, you can easily create not only sharply focused images but also give them a beautifully blurred background thanks to the wide f/1.8 aperture.

Excellent for portraits and architecture

Moreover, this lens has a 50mm focal length, allowing users to fill the frame with their subject from a comfortable distance. This is helpful when capturing portraits and architecture.

It also has a similar perspective to the human eye and a compact size, which makes the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM ideal for everyday use and a great traveling companion. The small dimensions and equally lightweight body makes it very convenient to be carried with your EOS camera.

This lens employs a near-silent Stepping Motor technology, which leads to extremely quickly focusing without any noise.

So now, you no longer have to worry about missing fleeting moments as this lens can focus steadily and smoothly, thanks to its advanced STM technology.

This has also made capturing movies easier because the quiet continuous focusing ensures that the only soundtracks captured in the video are the surrounding sounds and not the noise generated by the focusing motor.

Next, it features a Super Spectra coating on its elements, which helps minimize ghosting and flare minimize so that better contrast and color neutrality can be reached.

Additionally, the build has been redesigned to enhance durability and reliability.

The redeveloped physical design provides users with lasting quality as it incorporates a metal lens mount in a better manner. Simultaneously, the re-located focusing ring helps to maintain a compact form factor without undermining performance.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm

It also has a Rounded seven-blade diaphragm, which results in a pleasing out of focus quality, which allows users to benefit from shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

It is very versatile and can be used in any condition, anywhere. You can even use it for Portrait Photography as its features make it perfectly capable of capturing expressions on the face.

So you can use it to cover your memorable moments and treasured photos of friends and family at any weddings, events, or parties.

It is also ideal for Low-light photography, making it perfect for shooting in darker conditions, such as capturing nightscapes, dimly lit interiors, and firework displays.

This lens can also be used to capture the aspects of urban scrapers and details on sculptures, thus making it perfect for capturing architecture. It leads to Artistic and impactful images. So use it to capture life as it happens in front of you by shooting anything from your town’s streets to the emotions of events.

So, all in all, the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM is an all-rounder and has replaced many lenses because it gives outstanding picture quality at an affordable price. It has become prevalent in the world of prime lenses because Canon has combined a fast, near-silent focus motor with a more robust build to produce this beautiful piece of equipment with all the right features.

Thus, it is an optimal lens that deserves a place in every photographer’s kit!

Canon wide angle lens review

If you want a camera lens with a flexible wide-angle zoom along with a compact form factor, then Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM will be the right choice for you.

Canon EF-S 10-18mm Review

This 16-28.8mm equivalent lens is designed for Canon’s EF-S-mount DSLRs. The best thing about it is that now photographers can work with a reduced size lens without compromising optical quality.

This is because this compact lens is employed with a four-group zoom design together with one ultra-low dispersion element, one aspherical element, and one large-diameter element to produce high quality, sharp, and clear imagery. These features make this lens void of chromatic and spherical aberrations.

Moreover, this lens also has a Super Spectra coating, which suppresses flare and ghosting so that contrast and color neutrality can be increased. To benefit both stills and video applications, there is an STM stepping AF motor, which leads to a smooth and near-silent autofocus performance and provides full-time manual focus override.

This lens also comes with a four-stop-effective Image Stabilizer system, which reduces the appearance of camera shake to result in sharper handheld shooting.

Above is just a list of features this lens has. We will look at all the features in detail to understand what makes Canon EF-S10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens so special?

Canon 10-18mm – Product Overview:

First, we will discuss the Wide-angle zoom this lens features, which gets more in every shot, every time. So the EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM gives you an ultra-wide perspective for all your APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs with its 16-28.8mm equivalent focal length range.

Thus, it allows users to capture expansive landscapes and imposing architecture without a hitch easily. In comparison, a standard lens covers a range of 18-55mm, which can only capture ordinary images. So if a photographer wants to expand their photographic capabilities, then this lens is for him!

Secondly, Canon has introduced ways to reduce chromatic aberration, flare, ghosting successfully, and distortion, all in one go in this lens through its Anti-flare technology.

It can do this because it features one ultra-low dispersion glass element, minimizing chromatic aberrations and color fringing, resulting in high clarity and color fidelity. It also has an aspherical element to limit spherical aberration and distortion, which results in accurate rendering and greater sharpness.

Super Spectra Coated

Its elements are then coated with Super Spectra, which minimizes ghosting and flare and enhances contrast and color neutrality, especially when shooting in strong lighting conditions. Now shots can be captured without worrying about the sun interference, as all the unwelcome areas of low contrast and orbs of color are removed thanks to the Super Spectra Coating.

All this means that photographers have less to worry about and can concentrate more on enjoying the view while shooting freely. So what more can anyone ask for?

Next is the Optical Image Stabilizer, which this lens employs to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed stops. This advanced IS technology makes the lens more capable of working with slower shutter speeds and low-light and helps the photographers capture the moment on the first try.

It sports a stepping AF motor, which includes near-silent STM technology, thus resulting in quick and quiet autofocus. This means that photographers can now continuously focus without the noise of a focusing motor being recorded with the surrounding sounds.

Fast AF performance

The STM motor is further complemented by a rear focus system, a high-speed CPU, and advanced AF algorithms, leading to fast AF performance. This lens also provides you with a full-time manual focus override so that you can twerk with your creativity whenever you want.

It also has a Rounded seven-blade diaphragm, which delivers a pleasing out of focus quality by benefiting from selective focus techniques and shallow depth of field.

This lens is also very versatile. You can capture anything with it. It is not made for just one genre; rather, you can experiment with any photography with it. From architecture and travel photography to landscape and wildlife photography, this lens can capture anything that is happening in front of you.

Be it moments on lively streets of your town, sweeping Landscape views, emotional events, you can cherish them forever with this lens whenever you find them (from dawn to dusk). This lens can beautifully capture hillsides and seascapes while it can also highlight the details of city landmarks and urban architecture. It can bring any scene to life.

Whether it is beautiful structures, imposing monuments, towering cityscapes, or traveling landmarks, this lens can help you treasure all these spurs of the moment memories.

Easy to zoom

Coming on to the build quality, this lens from Canon EF-S STM IS lens family doesn’t fall short. It resembles its siblings, and like all Canon cameras, it is nicely-built and features a large and easy-to-use zoom ring. The size and design make it nothing but the best as it is significantly smaller, compact, and lightweight than the rest of the competitors.

The material used to construct it is also of top-notch quality. Even the EF-S STM barrels are made of quality engineering plastic. This enhances the reliability and durability of this lens. It also has usual ribbed-rubber-covered rings, which are very smooth with no play. The size of the zoom ring is also on point.

The rotational resistance of the zoom ring is also good and works well for this range. Lastly, this lens has a beautiful finish, as well. It looks classy and overall is a beauty to own. So, all in all, this Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM is a good investment and works like a pro.

Canon EF-S 55-250 mm lens review

Canon EF-S 55-250 mm lens is perfect for shooting a distant subject. The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM is designed for long reach, which has been enhanced by adding an Ultra-Low Dispersion element.

This greatly reduces color fringing and minimizes chromatic aberrations, thus providing greater color accuracy and clarity throughout the zoom range. It also features a Super Spectra coating, which minimizes flare and ghosting, resulting in greater contrast, especially when working in bright lighting.

It all the capabilities which benefit both photography and videography. Then it boasts an STM stepping AF motor, which leads to quick and silent autofocus performance. It also has a full-time manual focus override.

Moreover, it has a four-stop-effective Image Stabilizer system, which minimizes camera shake’s appearance and results in sharper handheld shooting.

Let us look at the features of the Canon EF-S 55-250 mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens in detail so that you will know what makes this lens so amazing!

Canon 55-250 mm – product overview:

First, let me discuss the new optics. They have improved in sharpness, and the lens is way better than its previous versions. This is a new version, and I must say that it’s sharper than other competitors in the market.

It is what every photographer hoped for. Next is the Autofocus, which has also been enhanced. It is improved, and it takes less time to hunt before locking and is nearly instantaneous. The AF system is advanced and very professional.

The Manual focus did take me some time to figure out, but it worked perfectly once I figured how to override autofocus with the manual focus ring. But I doubt I will use manual focus because the autofocus works beyond expectation and is so good and factual.

Another key feature in the lens that thrilled me was the sharpness at the long telephoto end. With it, you can capture fast-moving objects without wasting any time on focus. So, improved autofocus and sharpness with quicker focus have enhanced its appeal for me.

This new lens is delivered in all areas and is an all-rounder. It has improved the quality of my images and is way better than the lenses I previously owned.

Strong build

The build quality is also on point with the optimal balance between plastic and metal mount. Some people critique the material used, but the positive thing is that it has made the lens very light. The weight hasn’t been reduced at the expense of quality.

The build remains solid like all other canon lenses, as Canon is a brand known for providing quality. The reduced weight has made it easy to carry it all day long without getting it, which means that now users can take more pictures anywhere!

It is durable and strong but is not made for extreme conditions. It might not survive the harshness of heavy weather, so that’s a drawback, but it can last longer if used well. So the heavy-duty build has been compromised for lightness and optics, which are outstanding and make it worthwhile.

The price of this lens is also an absolute bargain, as it comes at the least cost. It is one of the most competitive lenses in the market because the price tag is less than the price of a good dinner at a restaurant! The features it offers make it a very profitable investment as you get the best value for your money.

Telephoto zoom

Next is the telephoto zoom, which has been designed for APS-C format in the Canon EF-S-mount series. It provides an 88-400mm equivalent focal length range. Moreover, it has an Ultra-Low Dispersion glass element which minimizes color fringing and chromatic aberrations.

It is perfect for better clarity and color fidelity. Its elements have been coated with Super Spectra coating, which reduces ghosting and flare. That is why it provides greater contrast and color neutrality and can work perfectly in bright light.

Additionally, it has an Optical Image Stabilizer, which reduces camera shake by up to 3.5 stops. This makes it perfect even for low-light conditions and enables better working with slower shutter speeds.

It also has enhanced lens coatings that produce true colors and maintains balanced contrast by minimizing ghosting. Moreover, it sports an STM stepping AF motor, which is noise-less and is perfect for videography and is complemented by rear focus systems and advanced AF algorithms.

This results in a high-speed CPU and enables fast AF performance. It boasts a seven-blade rounded diaphragm, which provides a pleasing out of focus quality that utilizes selective focus techniques and shallow depth of field to produce excellent results.

Adds versatility and range

Summing it up, if you are a photographer or a videographer who wants to add versatility and range to your photography collection, then this EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM by Canon is the right telephoto zoom lens for you. It is a dream come true as it has everything.

From the compactness and lightweight to the Optical Image Stabilizer, which extends the camera‘s reach significantly, and the amazing STM stepping motor with a perfectly designed high-speed CPU, everything works smoothly and efficiently.

There is nothing to displease. There may be some minor drawbacks, but overall, this lens is one perfect piece of innovation that produces excellent image quality and high resolution and ensures easy compatibility and ease of use.

It is something that you shouldn’t miss as it is a masterpiece by Canon. The brand never fails to impress, and I highly recommend it because its popularity is justified. It is worth every penny!
