Canon EOS 250D camera is explicitly designed for entry-level photographers. It includes features such as a built-in feature guide, scene modes, creative filters, and picture styles typically found on entry-level cameras.

Additionally, the camera features a fully articulating touchscreen with an incredibly simple-to-use interface. Additionally, the camera features a large mode wheel that assists beginning photographers by including extra shooting modes such as Programmed Automatic (P), Aperture priority (Av), Shutter priority (Tv), and Manual (M).

Canon EOS 250D Review

It is the lightest DSLR camera with a moveable screen in the world. The Dual Pixel CMOS Auto-Focusing on the 24.1 megapixels 250D Camera boasts a massive 143/3,975 AF points in live view mode and a more basic 9 AF points when using the optical viewfinder, enabling eye-detection and functioning down to -4 EV when using live view (-0.5 EV via the optical viewfinder).

Canon 250d camera settings

There’s also a 63-zone metering sensor, an ISO range of 100-25,600 (expandable to 51,200), a better-guided user interface, the newest DIGIC 8 engine, 5fps continuous shooting, up to 1,070 shot battery life (when using the optical viewfinder), and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection.

One of the fundamental changes between this camera and the previous EOS 200D / SL2 model is the updated video mode, allowing 4K HD recording at 25/24p and Full HD recording at 60/50/30/25fps.

The Canon EOS 250D – Budget-Friendly DSLR Camera

Only a few new features were added to the 2-year-old Canon EOS 200D / Rebel SL2 to justify the release of the Canon EOS 250D, such as 4K video recording, a better Live View experience, and longer battery life.

This updated edition of the EOS 200D/Rebel SL2 has a 4K video, something we missed when evaluating the previous model. However, several drawbacks include the usage of a vast crop factor and the inability to utilize the superior Dual Pixel CMOS AF system while recording, which are common to other Canon 4K-capable cameras.

Canon EOS 250D’s Features:

Canon has enhanced the EOS 250D’s live view mode significantly more successfully. The EOS 250D’s vari-angle touchscreen and 3,975 AF points, which include face/eye recognition, make it one of the most excellent live-view photography DSLRs currently available.

Canon 250d eye focus

However, the camera’s poor optical viewfinder, which depends on a simple 9-point AF system and does not provide the same rich experience as a real mirrorless camera, is brought to light by the camera’s outstanding live view technology.

The battery life of more than 1,000 photos depends on utilizing the optical viewfinder rather than the improved live view option.

Tilting LCD Display

Because of its enhanced -4EV rating, the Canon EOS 250D still does well to latch on to the object in low light. However, when the focus is incorrectly confirmed, it’s pretty rare. Depending on your lens, the lens may hunt for a time in meager light – but it’s only in the darkest of situations that the camera cannot focus.

The Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology included in the camera’s Live View mode allows rapid and accurate autofocus when using the camera’s optical viewfinder in good light and the Live View mode.

With the 250D’s AI Servo mode enabled, tracking a moving subject is possible if the movement isn’t too fast and follows a predetermined path. 5fps should be adequate for most leisurely sports and activities, but you may have trouble capturing fast-paced events.

For the Canon EOS 250D movie mode, Live View is also employed instead of the conventional movie viewfinder. The on/Off switch in the third movie camera location immediately enters Live View Movie mode if you turn it on.

Full HD video clips can be recorded at 25, 30, 50, or 60 frames per second on the EOS 250D, while 4K videos can be recorded at 24, 25, or 30 frames per second. Not only does your choice of NTSC or PAL affect the available frame rates, but the EOS 250D’s 24fps 1080p frame rate while using NTSC video has been mysteriously deleted from the preceding 200D.

Canon 250d video quality

The 250D is the cheapest Canon DSLR camera to enable 4K video recording, thanks to the newest DIGIC 8 processor and the vari-angle LCD screen that can be adjusted to face forward. With a Mic-in connection, 250D is a Vlogger’s dream boarding pass.

Although the 250D appears to have a lot going for it on paper, its 4K mode automatically performs a 1.7x crop on the sensor, changing the lens’s focal length and making wide-angle photography nearly impossible.

When employing the digital stabilization system during video recording, the fitted lens is extended by 2x, and the ISO range peaks out at ISO 6400 rather than 25600 when taking stills.

The Canon EOS 250D In-hand

For a 4K video, this is the ultimate nail in its coffin since the camera’s outstanding Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology doesn’t function while shooting in 4K. So, as with the EOS M50 mirrorless camera, 4K video on the EOS 250D is a half-baked letdown.

Instead of focusing on this flaw, Canon’s EOS 250D offers a CR3 14-bit RAW file format and a new C-RAW option, reducing the size of full-resolution RAW files by about 30-40% while maintaining the same image quality.

Instead of using an external transmitter, the EOS 250D’s built-in pop-up flash does not include an Integrated Speedlite Transmitter for managing up to two groups of off-camera Speedlites. In addition, the lack of a PC Sync connector and the inability to connect the camera to external lighting severely restricts the usage of the 250D in studio settings.

Additionally, the camera has a stereo mic built-in, and you may use an external microphone with a stereo mini connector to the camera’s external microphone IN port.

Videos 2, 4, or 8 seconds long may be combined into a single movie file using the Video Snapshot function. This makes editing and creating videos comparable in length to the snippets found in most TV shows and movies simple. Then, using the camera’s built-in microphone, you may record a soundtrack and save the clips to a video album.

A substantial improvement over the 650-shot life of its predecessor, the EOS 200D / SL2, the EOS 250D is powered by the same LP-E17 battery as the EOS 200D.

It offers enough power for 1070 photographs while utilizing the optical viewfinder, according to measurements that correspond to CIPA standards. In addition, the LC-E17 charger that comes with the battery can recharge it.

A neck strap, a software CD, and a user manual are all included in the box, printed in many languages, courtesy of Canon.

Ease of Use

Usually, mirrorless cameras are on the heavier side, but Canon took care of the weight o enhance the ease of use of this gadget.

In terms of dimensions and weight, the new EOS 250D / Digital Rebel is identical to the EOS 100D / Digital Rebel SL1 model it replaces in Canon’s extensive line of cameras, measuring 122.4 x 92.6 x 69.8mm and weighing 453g, once again making it the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR camera with a vari-angle screen.

The EOS 250D’s handgrip is the same as its predecessor’s, allowing three average-sized fingers to fit comfortably around it. With your little finger supporting the camera’s base, the handgrip provides enough support to operate the camera with some of Canon’s bigger EF lenses.

The Canon EOS 250D / feels fair enough for an entry-level DSLR, but it’s not quite up there with the company’s semi-professional models in terms of build quality.

Compatibility

The EOS 250D is compatible with Canon’s APS-C digital SLR lenses, including the EF and EF-S varieties. However, when changing lenses, the red dot on the lens mount must be aligned with the EF lens, whereas the white square must be aligned with the EF-S lens.

In contrast to Canon and Nikon, Sony, Olympus, and Pentax have chosen to stabilize their cameras via the body rather than the lens. As a result, their stabilization is compatible with all of their lenses.

However, Canon’s method presents the stabilizing effect through the viewfinder, whereas both Canon and Nikon argue that a lens-based anti-shake system is intrinsically superior.

Image Quality

The 24 megapixels Fine JPEG are around 7MB in size. The file size is a little heavier for JPEG, but it ensures that no image details are lost, even in JPEG mode.

During the evaluation time, the Canon EOS 250D delivered high-quality photos. Noise-free JPEG photos are produced from ISO 100 to ISO 1600, with noise emerging at ISO 3200, which is excellent for a 24 MPAPS-C Sensor camera. Faster settings, such as 6400 and 12800, produce more noise, while 25600 is best saved for dire circumstances.

Canon 250d ISO

With a maximum shutter speed of 30 seconds and Bulb mode, you could catch enough light in all scenarios for the night shot. In addition, highlight Tone Priority and Auto Lighting Optimizer are potent tools for JPEG photographers when used appropriately.

There are several picture modes to enhance creativity, i.e., it is possible to see the impact of the Creative Filters before you take the picture in HDR mode, which combines three photographs shot at different exposures.

Ten possibilities are available in Creative Filters, which is essentially a more extreme version of the well-known Picture Styles. Also, preset combinations of various sharpness, contrast, saturation, and color tone settings are available in Canon’s Picture Styles.

You may choose between ISO 100 and 25600 full-stop increments, and a boosted ISO 51200 preset is also available. JPEG and RAW versions show the noise levels at various ISO settings in these 100% slices.

Some other features of Photography:

  • For night photography, the Canon EOS 250D has a maximum shutter speed of 30 seconds and a Bulb mode for even longer exposures, which is excellent news. At ISO 100, a shutter speed of 15 seconds was used to capture this image with an f/8 aperture and a 15-second exposure time.
  • In-camera processing by Auto Lighting Optimizer equalizes and balances contrast and brightness. Off, Low, Standard, and Strong are the four options.
  • The Canon EOS 250D’s HDR Backlight scene mode uses three different exposures and merges them into one to capture more information in the shadow and highlights.
  • You may enable the menu’s custom feature, “Highlight Tone Priority.” The dynamic range of the camera’s highlights is increased with this custom function. In addition, highlight Tone Priority significantly decreased the highlight blow-out in these cases.
