In the world of action photography, well-valued cameras like Apeman’s A79 are rapidly becoming popular among photographers and adventurers.
Apeman from other brands signifies that instead of just being a cheaper alternative of high-end action cameras, it is manufacturing good quality cameras with 4k resolution, image stabilization, and multiple other dandy features.
Take, for example, A79, its specifications, and after that, its price can instantly grab the attention of anyone with little know-how about action cameras.
Apeman A79 Review
In the category of reasonably priced action cameras, Apeman A79 is one of the most sold ones.
Key reasons behind this solid reputation are its solid build, reasonable price, 4k videos, electronic image stabilization, good battery life, waterproofing, 20Mp images, remote controlling, multiple images/video modes, connectivity features, et cetera.
Let’s have an in-depth look at the salient specifications of this nifty gadget.
Features of Apeman A79:
Built and design
One of my favorite things about Apeman cameras is that though action cameras under this brand name’s umbrella are reasonably priced. Yet, the built and material quality isn’t compromised.
A79 is all made up of plastic with physical dimensions of 1.97 x 1.18 x 0.79 Inches (L x W x H). With the tiny size, its weight is also 0.17 pounds only. The plastic used in the built is high-quality, easily absorbing shocks and resist breakage, et cetera.
If you often have to carry a camera outdoors, or you are an enthusiast who loves to capture his adventures all the time, Apeman A79 can be your perfect buddy.
On the front side of the camera, the dominant feature is 170 degrees wide-angle zooming lens. With this, there is a power on-off button. The start recording button is on the upper side, the micro SD compartment slot is on the left side, and the setting button is on the right side.
Two buttons control the settings, and all settings and footages are displayed on two inches LCD screen. There is also a slot for Micro USB and HDMI cable (HDMI cable sent with the package) for connectivity. One last compartment is for a removable battery.
The number of mounts is sent with A79, which is also high-quality and capable of holding the camera firmly at your desired place. These mounts include chest mounts, bike mounts, cycling, handlebar, helmet mounts, et cetera.
4k videos
Capture the ultra-high-definition native 4K videos with Apeman A79. Unlike the low-end action cameras, it isn’t offering the false 4K; instead, it is a full 4k, captured at 30fps. These fps cannot be changed, but at lower resolutions, videos can be captured on higher frame rates. Other resolutions and framerates offered are:
- 2.7K at 30 fps
- 1080P FHD at 60fps and 30fps
- 720P HD at 240fps, 120fps, 60fps, and 30fps
4k and all other videos are stored in MP4 format in a micro SD card under the H.264 codec. A79 doesn’t have its storage, so it’s necessary to insert an SD card to store the footage. It is recommended to use storage cards with higher transfer speed as it minimizes the camera’s overheating.
Comparing the video quality of A79 with its predecessors, there are major improvements. This version has effective EIS and several video settings and video modes, making the shooting experience better. Some of these are single shooting, burst mode, slow motion, aqua mode, distortion correction, long exposure, et cetera.
Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS)
If you are looking forward to using Apeman A79 in sports photography or action photography outdoors, it is the best choice. It comes with built-in EIS technology to deliver super smooth and clear images.
EIS is used mainly to stabilize the videos. Unlike OIS (optical image stabilization), it does not require the software. In A79, this technology reduces image shake and controls image stability by manipulating the image electronically, using the camera’s light-sensing chip, the Charge Coupled Device (CCD).
Whenever there is a shake, the technology slightly moves the image in the opposite direction to keep the image at the same place. It works for both shakes caused by zooming or any physical circumstance around the camera.
EIS works best for the videos, but it also stabilizes the still images.
Still photography
The 170-degree wide 7G lens with Sony Sensor provides very high-quality 20MP images. Other photo resolutions are 16MP, 14MP, 10MP, 8MP, 5MP, and 2MP. Images are shot in JPG format (4:3 or 16:9 format) and stored in a micro SD card.
The burst mode, time-lapse, and timer also works with still photography.
Images quality is pretty impressive, and the results are vibrant. Though low-light photography results aren’t very satisfactory for the camera’s price, Apeman A79 provides the results better than any other competitor manufacturing action cameras in this price range.
One disappointing thing is that it isn’t capable of shooting in RAW format, which is very common.
Waterproof
Once Apeman A79 is placed inside* its waterproofing cover, it is waterproof up to 131 feet or 40 meters. Enjoy underwater dives ad water sports without any worry of damaging your camera.
*without this case, the camera is vulnerable. Slight water inside it can damage it permanently.
Battery life
At 40k/30fps, Apeman A79 can shoot for 120 minutes continually. This is the average time of a GoPro camera’s shooting, which makes it impressive. The battery used is a typical 1500 mAh lithium polymer one.
120 minutes of battery time is in perfectly ideal conditions; otherwise, it is lesser than this.
External mic
Apeman A79 supports the external mic, ensuring that the audio is captured in high quality, just like footages. The external mic comes with the accessories (not waterproof)
Remote control
A 2.4 GHz remote also comes with Apeman A79 to control the camera hands-free. To make the experience much better, this remote control is wearable on the wrist.
Connectivity
For easy sharing and connectivity, A79 has a Wi-Fi feature. Just download the Apeman app, connect the camera, and start sharing your footage on your smartphone and with the world.
