Akaso stands among those camera manufacturers who believe that no one should miss out on the experience of using a good action camera just because of the expensive piece tags. Their products are very reasonably priced but feature almost all of the features of high-end cameras.

Put an Akaso camera side by side with an action camera with a heavy price tag, and you will indeed find more value of money in the Akaso one.

Akaso Brave 7 LE Review

Akaso Brave 7 LE, the latest release from this Chinese manufacturer, is changing the game in low-end action cameras. Its features and price tag collectively brought many surprises to the table.

It bid farewell to many standard features, i.e., a single screen, and made sure of delivering everything that matters for an adventurer or an action camera enthusiast.

Akaso Brave 7 LE  – Insanely Good Value Action Camera

When Akaso Brave 7 LE appeared on the market, Hero 8 was the flagship model of GoPro in the market. Many people started comparing both of them because of the feature-set, but, Akaso is not a comparison of each other.

The latter one is almost double in price, and though the target market for both of them is action camera users, they are still intended to serve the different segments of the market. In short, both are perfect on their own.

Brave 7 LE is loaded with a dozen of valuable features, including innovative dual color screens, IPX8 waterproof to 5M/16FT, 4K UHD video shooting, 20-megapixel stills, time-lapse & timewarp, EIS 2.0 anti-shake technology, 170-degree super wide-angle lens, connectivity features, several photos and video shooting modes, and a lot more.

Here is the rundown of the salient features of the device:

Built and Design

Akaso Brave 7 LE has a standard design for an action camera. Small but compact & rigid body but feels very premium and rigid in hands. It has a rubberized finish that makes the grip on the camera more strong.

Besides the action camera users, this device is also a perfect choice for vloggers due to its dual screens. One is the standard screen, but the front screen is ideal for selfies. It can be switched so users can check out the composition, et cetera real-time, and every time gets the footage the way they desire.

The rear screen is the larger one with a 2 inches display, works as the menu navigator, and is also touch responsive. Both screens got dull under the bright sunlight, but honestly, not much is expected at this price.

Akaso Brave 7 LE action camera settings

Akaso Brave 7 LE action camera metering

Usually, the menu of cameras features too many settings. It is suitable for experts, but for people who aren’t aware of manual settings, camera settings are just a headache. But the menu of Brave 7 LE is straightforward and can be navigated very easily.

A fascinating feature about built, the camera is waterproof up to 10 meters or 33 feet without any need for the additional casing.

Akaso Brave 7 LE action camera underwater without a case

It allows you to shoot in the rain, water, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and during all types of watersports without any worries of damaging the camera. But that’s not it, and Brave 7 SE can be taken down to a depth of 98ft/30m using the waterproof housing.

6-axis stabilization

Action photography involves many bumps and shakes, so image stabilization is essential for any action camera.

The built-in stabilization technology of Akaso Brave 7 LE is almost perfect! No matter how bumpy the shooting circumstances are, all thanks to this 6-axis anti-shake technology (EIS 2.0), the video always turns out super-smooth and clear.

Video Quality

Brave 7 LE offers a video resolution of 4K at 30fps. The video turns out very clear and sharp, especially outdoors or under properly lit situations. And all thanks to the tilting screen, users can now record 4k vlogs and selfie videos with this tiny action camera. Besides 4K, it can also shoot at 2K, 1080p, and 720p options at different frame rates.

Akaso Brave 7 LE action camera wind noise reduction

Overall, the video results are pretty nifty, but we do not like how the footage turned out after 30fps. 1080p60fps video was way mediocre. The best resolution setting to shoot videos with this camera is 4k30fps.

Image Quality

20 MP still results of Akaso Brave 7 LE turned out average – neither too good nor too bad. But commonly, action camera manufacturers are more focused on the camera’s video quality, and keeping in view the price of this camera, it performs well.

Images results are reasonable, especially under bright light but do not expect anything like DJI Osmo Action or GoPro. Under the dimly lit situations, the grainy effect is celery visible in images.

Multiple modes

To make video and still shoot more fun, the camera has multiple videos and images.

For starters, it has time-lapse and slo-mo for videos. The other two worth mentioning video modes are still photo and driving mode.

It has a single-shot mode, self-timer mode, burst mode, timelapse, and prolonged exposure for stills.

Audio Quality

The audio quality of Akaso Brave 7 LE is surprisingly outstanding. The camera features a built-in Wind Noise Reduction feature that automatically reduces the wind noise from all the footage and enhances the video quality. Again – a perfect action camera for vlogging.

Besides the audio quality, the camera can be controlled using hands-free voice control.

Battery life

A standard 1350mAh battery is used in the device, which as per the camera manual, offers about 110 mins recording time for 4K video. But when shooting stills or switching the resolutions, the battery can last longer.
